Substance use has quickly become an epidemic in our society. While many who suffer from substance use remain in denial about their problem, the numbers aren’t deniable. With such large numbers found in substance use statistics, there can be no denial about the severity of this problem.
General Statistics
The National Survey on Drug Use and Health estimates that during 2014, almost 22 million Americans over the age of 12 suffered from substance use. Of those millions, one out of every eight suffered from both drug and alcohol use at once. Also, 8 million of those with a substance use problem also suffered from an untreated mental illness.
