Benzo Addiction Treatment

A benzo addiction as a young adult doesn’t have to translate into substance use and addiction problems throughout your entire life.

These medications can be extremely helpful and provide much-needed relief, but they’re also extremely addictive. Trying to stop alone, though, can be dangerous. Withdrawal from benzos is straining for the body and mind. Benzo addiction treatment can help break the cycle more safely and offer support for the road ahead.

Red Oak Recovery® has many programs for men. We also offer a unique approach to treatment, which can help you get better faster and be more successful in long-term recovery. Get help in our North Carolina addiction treatment programs by calling 828.382.9699 now.

Why Are Benzos So Addictive?

Benzos work by increasing the brain’s levels of a neurotransmitter called GABA, which helps to calm the brain and body. It’s this calming effect that makes benzos so effective in treating anxiety, insomnia, and other conditions. However, as the body becomes accustomed to this increased level of GABA, it can also become dependent on it. This means that when someone tries to stop taking benzos, their body may experience withdrawal symptoms as it struggles to function without the drug.

Withdrawing from benzos is similar to withdrawing from alcohol. The body and brain go through a sort of whiplash trying to readjust to functioning without the drug. This can cause uncomfortable and sometimes dangerous symptoms, including seizures, hallucinations, and increased heart rate.

When to Start Addiction Treatment

If you or a loved one is taking benzos and are concerned about addiction, it’s important to seek help as soon as possible. The longer someone takes benzos, the more dependent their body can become on them, making it even harder to stop without professional support.

Additionally, if you have already tried to stop taking benzos on your own and experienced withdrawal symptoms, it’s crucial to seek medical attention immediately. Withdrawal from benzos can be life-threatening, and attempting to detox without proper supervision can put you at risk.
